HIV Is Not a Crime Training Academy 5 (HINAC) 

Apontesierra is the winner of the HINAC 5 Visual Art Contest. 

HINAC educate and train people living with HIV (PLHIV), activists, stakeholders, and policy leaders to mobilize state-level advocacy to end HIV-related criminalization. It will be held June 4 – 7, 2023, at Henry and Emory College in Emory, VA. HINAC V will include leadership institutes for Black, Latinx and white people dismantling racism in HIV spaces activists.  

Apontesierra got a special invitation to the Academy where his Art piece will be presented to the world as the image for Visual Art 2023 campaign in the form of a Post card. It will be used in a national mail campaign to educate the public about HIV criminalization and the need for reform. The event organizer hand the post card out to event attendees and ask them to send to legislators. 

HINAC helps ensure that these grassroots advocacy and mobilization efforts are informed by the latest science and research, effective messaging and expert strategic guidance from experienced grassroots activists, public health, legal and policy professionals. HINAC is one of the efforts implemented by SERO. This organization centers PLHIV leadership to end HIV criminalization, mass incarceration, racism, and social injustice by supporting inclusive PLHIV networks to improve policy outcomes, advance human rights and promote healing justice.
